If you are new, asking someone to dance can be intimidating. At first, you don’t have much confidence because you are in a new environment and don’t know many patterns or much technique. The turn-down rate can seem quite high at times. If you do get turned down, try not to take it personally – it probably has nothing to do with you whatsoever.
If you do get turned down (and we all do, from time to time), just try to smile and say. “Well, maybe another time, thanks,” and walk away.
If you are getting turned down a lot, ask your teacher what he/she thinks that the problem might be. If it is just a newbie think, ask if he/she wouldn’t mind introducing you to a few experienced people who would dance with you a couple of times to get you started. (However, do not misuse this benefit – ask this person only once a night so that others can have the opportunity to dance with this helpful person.
